The American Dream, an opportunity for prosperity and success.  Success can have various definitions, depending on your world view.  What I have observed, people view material possessions, as achievement. For example, having the newest designer shoes, purses, biggest house, cars etc.. This younger generation considers that as, “Winning”.  Their main goal is to “Get money” so they can rock the new Jordan’s and live their life like celebrities.  Many individuals are social media oriented and focused on what the next person has. Trying to keep up with the Jones’s/ Kardashians. Now, it is not harmful to want quality items but one should be concerned with much more.

When your time is up on this earth, would you have utilized it wisely? Did you fulfill your God-given purpose? Where will your soul go? Life is greater than something tangible. “Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things”-Colossians 3:2. When all things pass away those items will be left here, re-sold, or given away. Your destiny is most important! Not the next Instagram post. “Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God”- Mathew 19:24

Lets shift focus and concern to what matters. Your PURPOSE. Take some time to self reflect and figure out what your calling is. Do not lose yourself trying to chase after an object that will return to dust. Below, you will find a list of things that can help you change gears and center your heart on your destiny.

  1. Pray- In order to find our your God-given purpose. One must actually pray to God. He will answer your prayers give you guidance.
  2. Decrease-  TV and social media can clutter your mind. You can become confused with your purpose by focusing on everyone else’s life. It gets in your heart, and we must always guard our hearts. Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it- Psalm 4:23. So eliminate the amount of time you spend on social media and watching TV. You need your mind clear as possible so you can hear from God.
  3. Self-reflect- A great thing to do is evaluate yourself. You know what you do and do not like. Make a list of your talents, character traits, and what you can do with them. Use that list, as a guide to get you to your purpose.
  4. Guidance- find wise counsel whom you can go to and get guidance. It can be your Pastor, counselor, grandma etc.. Whoever it is, make sure they have the wisdom, Godly views, and your genuine interest at heart, to help you down the correct path
